The 2020 NBA Bubble was the isolation zone at Walt Disney World created by NBA to protect its players from the COVID-19 pandemic during the final eight games of the 2019–20 regular season and playoffs. Girona is not Disney World nor Florida, however Spar Girona managers made an impressive effort to assume the organization of a Girona bubble for the benefit of their fans. After defeating Sepsi in Turkey, the Catalans certified their attendance in the preliminary league and some days later, FIBA confirmed Girona as a city host for the bubble week.
In order to protect the health and guarantee the safety of players, coaches and officials a decision has been taken to reorganize the competition in hubs with a modified format. As the name suggests, the aim of the bubble format is to isolate all the actors and thus reduce any risk as much as possible. With this in mind, the organisation immediately welcomed the facilities, location and service offered by Hoteles Ultonia Girona. During four days players, coaches, managers and all the staff will live exclusively in the hotel and the pavilion.
How to do that? El Baluard, the hotel's congress hall, allows up to four rooms to be divided up independently and with a dedicated catering service for each one. This allows each team to have a private room where they can prepare the games, review concepts and study rivals. This arrangement is ideal so each team can live independently without having to coincide more than is strictly necessary.
Transfers from the hotel to the arena can be handled with ease by a direct coach as they pick up the players in front of the hotel’s gate, drive them to Fontajau and drop them off in less than 5 minutes.
Without a doubt, first class basketball in Girona. Now, everything is ready for the show.
