Girona is dressing up. The Sant Narcís Festival is being held from the 25th of October to the 3rd of November. The city is filled with visitors, joy and festivity. You must enjoy Girona's main festival as a first-person experience. Activities for children and adults, theatre, music, stalls, roast chestnuts, fairs, barraques (drinks stalls) and fireworks are the ingredients that make this festival one of the most special in the Catalan territory.

In this year's edition, the city's patron saint can boast about headlining it. Sant Narcís is flying over a nocturnal Girona on a fly. We cannot forget that the Festa Major of Girona honours the martyr bishop Sant Narcís, and not undeservedly. According to legend, in 1285, in one of the mythical sieges that Girona suffered, French troops struggled to impose their rule on the city.
An army group decided to enter the church of Sant Feliu to seize the city. Suddenly, from the body of Sant Narcís, who rested silently in that church, fierce flies came out and put an end to the life of many French soldiers. The invading troops decided to retreat and move away quickly from Girona, confronted by that troop of flies that faithfully defended the city.
We do not know to what extent the events went that way. What we do know is that the Sant Narcís Festival is the opportunity to meet Girona at its most festive time of the year. When autumn arrives in the city and the leaves of the Devesa plane trees make a mosaic on the ground, Girona residents begin to prepare for party time.
This year, the Festa Major stands out for quality and wide-ranging performances. Music is one of the firmest policies of the Girona City Council. The musical programme of the Sant Narcís Festival will feature such prominent groups as Oques Grasses, Zoo, Asian Dub Foundation, Lildami and Ramon Mirabet. At the venues La Copa, Sant Feliu, the marquee and the Auditorium, the city will host national and international artists, of various musical genres and generations.

Without a doubt, saying goodbye to the summer and welcoming the autumn in Girona is good news. In addition to enjoying the festive atmosphere and the set of activities and performances prepared for this Festival, the Festa Major is also an opportunity to discover the scenery and streets of the city, with autumn colours.
